Really looking forward to heading to Barcamp Ireland at the end of this month... Hate doing the drive to Cork, but the Hubbie and myself decided to make a weekend of it. After a failed attempt to book a room in the Clarion hotel, I managed to get us into Isaac's Hotel, which seems to be a fairly decent 3*.
I signed up to do a presentation that was requested on the BarCamp blog, which I've titled "Getting Granny Blogging" (or Encouraging Web Usage in Non-Technical People). I have a fair bit of experience in this area, as I'm training people all the time to use systems that are unfamiliar to them... and also all the work I've done with Mum over the past few years (she impresses me soooo much!)...
However, I must admit to being a bit nervous - not sure what the people attending will be like, or if they'll be interested in what I have to talk about... and to top it all off, the Hubbie has never heard me present/talk in front of a crowd!

Hey Elly,
I'm thrilled you picked that topic to talk about - I think it is really important.
Speaking in public is always stressful and I'm forever doing the squeaky voice thing and the forgetting to breathe thing.
But I'm convinced that these sessions will be "amongst friends" and everyone will be supportive.
I think flaming will be reserved for the really geeky ones where passions are inflamed. But they'll be good fun too.
We also hope the sessions will be very interactive where people in the audience may contribute more on some topics than the original speaker.
The theme for the day, as Mrs Merton used to say is "Let's have a heated debate".
Heh, Sweetie you'll be grand and for God's sake don't worry about me being there, it never makes you nervous or shuts you up any other time so why start now :p Only kidding.
You will be incredible as always sweetie, so don't worry about it :)
Nah, looking forward to it really, I'm usually at my best in front of a crowd - It's just easier to set the tone and level of the presentation if you know the mindsets of who you are speaking to!
As for flaming - I can handle that!
Go for it girl! You will be fine, as usual.
Don't forget the little old man in the back row who is half deaf! lol
