So Minister for Transport Martin Cullen stated today that he plans to reduce the wait for driving tests in Ireland to 8 weeks by this time next year.
Yeah right!
Even if he does give the Road Safety Authority €10 million to help clear the backlog there's no way they're going to manage it - unless they follow the precedents set before and just hand a bunch of free licenses out to people without getting them to sit their tests.
I mean, they passed a law 2.5 years ago in this country allowing people to finally get married outside of churches and registry offices (and the law was expected for over a year before that), so do you think that the Registrar's office has managed to train up the registrars and put a system in place to facilitate this by now? Have they hell! Which means that my wedding which I've been planning for 2.5 years is now hanging by a thread and I won't know until 3 months before hand if it can go ahead as currently planned.
So, date marked in my diary for one year hence, let's see if Cullen can actually manage it - my money says he won't.
